Air Products signs contract with construction co for Hydrogen fueling station
Air Products declared that it has made an agreement with Sorensen Gross Construction Services to construct a hydrogen fueling station in Flint. The station will be used for fueling hydrogen fuel cell bus, which is controlled by the Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) of Flint. It will be part of the alternative fuels test program of MTA and is scheduled to be rolled out in April 2012.
Bob Kelly, Air Products’ Business Development Manager for Hydrogen Energy Systems, stated that the contract continues to highlight the company’s position in the progression of mass transit. He mentioned that the company has an established record of working with mass transit segment and is chosen for this project due to its technical expertise in designing and completing significant projects in a secure and timely fashion.
Ghassan Saab, CEO at Sorensen Gross, expressed his pleasure in partnering with Air Products, the MTA and other members in this project. He added that all the members are experts in their areas and will add value to this project.
In order to fuel the bus, Air Products will offer its hydrogen compression, dispensing and storage technology. Hydrogen will be generated from an electrolyzer developed by Proton OnSite.
According to Robert Friedland, President and Chief Executive Officer of Proton OnSite, the joint venture formed by public and private enterprises, along with a progressive mass transit agency like MTA, serves a major role in helping the U.S. to shift beyond fossil fuels. He mentioned that they hope to support more affordable and competent fueling choices. Travelers traveling in the hydrogen fuel cell bus next spring will support both Flint and nation on available fuel choices.
