WALLINGFORD -- Proton Energy Systems and SunHydro are set to open the first publicly owned hydrogen fueling station in the state Friday at 10 a.m., the companies announced.

Tom Sullivan, the owner of Proton and founder of SunHydro will open the station at the companies' headquarters on Technology Drive.

The fueling station is the first of Sullivan's planned East Coast Hydrogen Highway. The station will be able to refuel about 10 fuel cell vehicles with hydrogen everyday.

SunHydro reached an agreement with Toyota this summer to place 10 fuel cell cars in Connecticut and New York to introduce the vehicles to consumers over the next three years.
