Acumentrics Gets $15.6M DOE Grant for Fuel Cells
Westwood, MA-based Acumentrics, which makes uninterruptible power supplies for military and industrial customers and is developing new solid oxide fuel cell system that could produce as much as 10 kilowatts of power, said today that it has received a $15.6 million, three-and-a-half-year grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to continue work on the technology. Acumentrics—which is kicking in an unspecified portion of the grant itself as part of a cost-sharing agreement—believes that the low-emission fuel cells, which are based on a tubular ceramic material, will eventually be widely used for small, stationary power generation applications including homes, small businesses, and remote military outposts.
